2022 Foch - Niche Wine Co

Niche Wine Co. 2022 Foch

Emily’s adventurous local red — rich, full-bodied, patiently oak-aged, and made for long dinners, smoky flavours, and the familiar crackle of an old record.

Emily’s Bottle Insight

Some wines are easy introductions. Others are discoveries — bottles you may not have chosen without a trusted recommendation. The Niche Wine Co. 2022 Foch is one of those discoveries.

Emily selected it to bring depth, character, and a genuine sense of the Okanagan to her Summer Selects Collection. It is a confidently full-bodied red with aromas of dark chocolate, tobacco, and dried fruit, followed by flavours of blackberry, plum, and hazelnut.

Round, rich, and quietly unconventional, this is the bottle in the case that invites you to slow down, put something substantial on the table, and stay for another glass.

From Old Vines to American Oak

The fruit comes from twenty-five-year-old vines at Hugh & Mary Vineyard, along with grapes from premium Thompson Valley growers. Harvested at the end of October beneath clear Okanagan skies, the fruit was crushed, destemmed, and cold-soaked over several days before fermentation in small individual lots.

Partway through fermentation, the wine was gently pressed and allowed to finish in a combination of French and American oak. The special 2022 batch was then matured for 24 months in American oak before bottling — giving the wine time to develop its deep fruit, rounded texture, and warm savoury character.

Emily’s Pairing Pick

This is a red that welcomes bold, comforting food. Pair it with a beautifully grilled steak, smoked brisket, braised short ribs, roast lamb, grilled sausage, or a generous board of aged cheese and charcuterie.

It also suits the slower side of summer: something cooking gently for hours, friends gathered around the table, and Leonard Cohen playing while the evening settles in.

Why It Belongs in Emily’s Case

The Adventurous Local Red. One bottle of Niche Wine Co. 2022 Foch is included in Emily’s Curated Summer Case.

It gives the case something beyond the familiar. While the River Stone Merlot provides a smooth and dependable red anchor, the Foch adds discovery, conversation, and a deeper local story. It is the bottle that asks you to trust Emily — and rewards you for doing so.

Emily’s Local Wine Discovery

A Local Red with a Story to Tell

Maréchal Foch may be less familiar than Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, but that is part of its appeal. In the hands of Niche Wine Co., this distinctive grape becomes an expression of small-batch Okanagan winemaking—dark, full-bodied, richly textured, and unmistakably individual.

Earlier vintages of Niche Foch have attracted positive attention for their depth, dark-fruit character, chocolate and spice notes, and lingering finish. While those comments are not formal reviews of this exact 2022 release, they reveal an established winemaking style built around old-vine fruit, careful small-lot fermentation, and patient oak ageing.

This is not the most familiar grape in the case—and that is precisely why I selected it. Niche has shown over several vintages that Maréchal Foch can produce a rich, distinctive Okanagan red with genuine depth and personality.
